Erica Seigel - Wildlife Photography

My name is Erica Siegel, birds have been my special love since moving into my present Redland home 26 years ago. There were birds in the 21 hectares of bush next door I had never seen or even knew existed. 18 months later the bulldozers arrived, we local residents fought in court to save it but most of the bush was cleared for housing and the little birds all disappeared, some right away, others like the Double-barred Finches and a pair of White-throated Honeyeaters hung on for another 18 months but one day they too were gone, chased away by the Noisy Miners that arrived after the clearing.

It truly was paradise lost.

A few years later I took up art again and started to paint the little birds I no longer see and dearly miss. Out of this grew a need for reference photos and I bought a camera. This quickly grew into a passion, not only for recording the birds I saw but I discovered the small creatures we walk past each day without even knowing they are there or considering them worthy of a closer look.

So I started recording the small creatures and birds I saw on a website built by a friend in the UK, which is now closed down, replaced by the  www.ericasiegel-photography.com website I built.

In the last few years I have specialised in Native Solitary bees .

Julie's Stirring Pot of Herbs
by Julie Oakes

Julie's intrigue in organic herb growing excelled during a move to tropical Queensland when advised that she would find it difficult to master this hobby.

After many experiments which led to failures, but especially accomplishments, Julie came to the conclusion that her usage of herbs could expand further than the family kitchen.  She ventured out into the ‘olde worlde’ of drying herbs and creating herbal vinegars and oils.

Within no time, Julie found herself standing behind a stall at the local market selling her wares.

Both products are rich in vitamins and their flavours can provide many possibilities, ranging from the unusual and interesting dishes to just a simple salad, dressings and sauces.

Her Pot- Pourris are mainly based around her home grown French Lavender, which provide lavender balls, bags and bath salts.   But Julie's Christmas wouldn’t be complete without the nostalgic touch of scented pine cones and her ‘Nature’s Spice & All Things Nice.
